Jan 30 – Mar 8, 2014

Robischon Gallery is pleased to present seven regional, national and international artists who each explore distinctive and unconventional applications toward the language of line within abstraction.

Generated out of a formal vocabulary in non-objective art, the myriad of ways in which line as an essential mark might build on itself, brings with it endless possibilities.  Filled with potential, the character of any one mark, its scale and inherent color, sets the tone of the work. By way of connection, depth and form manifest; through color, a unique vibratory key results and in the current contemporary language which utilizes less- traditional materials, a new physicality is experienced, where surface, gravity or technology invite the viewer to follow a path both well-travelled and seen anew.

From the bold, architectonic yet organic frameworks of painter Jason Karolak, to Wendi Harford’s meditative drips, to the tangential constructions built with salvaged automotive metals by Ted Larsen, to the bookbinding sculptural works of Derrick Velasquez, to Kate Petley’s charged resin works and finally to Cuppetelli and Mendoza’s optically-mesmerizing projection, the exhibited artists in dialogue expand upon and colorfully navigate the territory within and “Out of Line.”

In the Viewing Room, new and recent prints by pre-eminent French artist Bernar Venet are also featured.
